MURIEL COHEN

Muriel Cohen, 86, passed away on September 19, 2022. Her family is at peace knowing her suffering has ended.



Muriel was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur. She is survived by three children; Scott (Laura), Florence, Jaye (Stephanie); five beloved grandchildren: Hunter, Spencer, Benjamin, Evan, and Bryce; her brother Sheldon (Ruth) of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.



Muriel was born in Baltimore on May 21, 1936, to Benjamin and Dorthy. Shortly after she was born, the family moved to Washington DC. She met her husband Arthur through the B'nai B'rith Girls organization and married him in 1959. Muriel worked most recently at Temple Emanuel before retiring as an administrative assistant. She spent many years working at the Barrie School as an administrative assistant to the head of school and in the admissions office. She was known as Mother Muriel or Mom to many of the students. Before that, she spent time working for the government at the Health and Human Services Department. She was an active member of her congregation, serving as president of the sisterhood for many years. She enjoyed painting, playing games, having too many hobbies to keep track of, and being with friends and family as much as possible.



Muriel is fondly remembered by many friends, family, and acquaintances for her smile, laughter, loving care, and affection she was able to give to all.



A funeral service will be held on September 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Temple Emanuel in Kensington MD. Burial will follow at King David Memorial Gardens in Northern Virginia. Shiva will be held at her home starting at 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday starting at 7 p.m.
