Nancylee Petty Obituary
PETTY NANCYLEE BOGARDUS PETTY (Age 74) Passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. She was born July 11, 1935 in New Richmond, OH, the daughter of Gaylord L. Bogardus and Avis H. Bogardus. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1957 with a BA. As an Apprentice Director of Christian Education she worked at St. James Episcopal Church, Monkton, MD 1957-58; later as parish secretary at St. Mark''s Episcopal Church, New Canaan, CT 1958-1959. She married The Rev. James S. Petty, July 11, 1959. She was a Respiratory Therapy Technician at Inova Fairfax Hospital 1979-97. She served as a Board Member for the Virginia Society for Respiratory Care 1982-90 and was presented with the James P. Baker Award for meritorious service in 1989 by the Virginia Society for Respiratory Care. She was active in Church of the Resurrection, Alexandria, VA and Trinity Episcopal Church, Asheville, NC where she played in the Hand Bell Choir and sang in the Chancel Choir. After living for 40 years in Northern Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. Petty moved to the Asheville, NC area in 1999 where they lived in Black Mountain before moving to Ardenwoods Retirement Community in Arden, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. James S. Petty, in 2007. She is survived by two sons, Stephen L. Petty, Martinsburg, WV and Eric M. Petty, Dale City, VA; two grandchildren, Jessica Adkins Williams, Manassas, VA and Jordan Petty, Dale City, VA; one great-grandchild, Hailey Williams; four nieces, Laura Beard, Farmington, NH, Kristin Bogardus, Cary, NC, Hester Petty, Greensboro, NC and Molly Petty, Staunton, VA. A requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 5 2010 in Trinity Episcopal Church, Asheville NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church, 60 Church St., Asheville, NC 28801; or Pet Pride Cat Shelter, www.petpride.org ; or Ohio Wesleyan University - University Relations Office, Mowry Alumni Center, Ohio Wesleyan University, 61 S. We were saddened to hear of Jim's passing in 2007 and now at learning of Nancylee's passing as well.
As parishioners at the Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna, Virginia we knew them both as members of our community before their move to North Carolina. Our condolences go out to their children and grandchildren. Nancylee and Jim knew what it was to live a life to service to God and God's people.

Dear Eric and Steve, I will always remember your mother as a classmate and our "horn player." She played in the Greenhills High School Band, and was ever a faithful "Pioneer." While we, like you, hate to lose her, we all can take hope in the promised reunion in heaven. Nancylee Petty was my mother. She passed away, unexpectedly, during heart surgery. I miss her so much. I pray she is in a better place along with Dad and all her other family and friends who've gone before her.
