Newman and Carolyn "adopted" us when we moved next door in the early 90s. They lived their lives as an example of commitment and dedication to marriage, family, neighbors, and community. Our lives and our children's lives were far richer because of them. We are so sad to learn of Newman's passing and our love and prayers of comfort go to all who Newman touched, but especially to dear Carolyn, Brenda and Jerry.

Shack's main goal each day was to care for his family and to do something nice for someone. He did favors quietly - never sought glory. He would come bouncing into the Legion or Moose with a smile, take care of a chore, shoot a little pool, and then took time to say goodbye to us before leaving. He was of the old school - his word was his bond. You never had to worry if he was in charge of a project. It got done - and ahead of schedule. He deeply loved his family and his country. He may not be here on earth but he is alive in our memories and hearts. I miss you Shack.

Words do not describe how huge of an impact this man made in my life! I am very sorry for the loss of Uncle Newman but so grateful for the memories and times I got to spend with him. Whether we were at Grandma's for the holiday gatherings or the reunion, it was always an adventure! Drinking ginger ales from downstairs, riding a bike up that horrid hill in front of his house, playing horseshoes, or even him fixing lawn mowers for me to take back to NC. I am so glad that he is not in pain, and can watch over us from afar. I love you Uncle Newman and cannot wait to see you again :) Love Always, your "Hillbilly", Natasha

Family,
Newman "Shack" as he was so affectionately known to his many friends at Dulles, was a very good man and loved by all. My Dad Tom "Big Tom" Maloney worked side by side with Shack for many years and loved him like a brother. We are so sorry and sending prayers your direction.

Newman was my Uncle, my God Father as well as my father figure for most of my life. He has taught me so much in my life! He and I were so
much alike that he even tried to teach me to laugh at my perfectism instead of stressing. He didn't discriminate by the fact that I was a female either. He taught me how to change a tire change my oil as well as my break pads on my car. He trained me to check my tire pressure and all my fluids before I was even allowed to drive my car which he actually picked as well as rebuilt the engine. He was such an amazing role model and father figure that when I had my own children I chose him to be the God Father of my daughter Hailey as well as my son Christian! He was known as the God Father of the family. I loved him so much and wish I had more silly times of laughter with him! His humor always made me smile. Love you Uncle Newman! <3

I wish I could be there today to help support the family in this hurtful time. Shack was such a great person and friend. He always had a smile and a good word for everyone. He was the handy man of the Lodge and was called on many, many a time to fix something that was not working right. He will be missed by many. Prayers are being sent to the family during this trying time. He has now joined others in the Moose Lodge in the heavens and keeping it running correctly.

Newman Lee Shackelford, my brother..
He was first my brother, then when our father was hurt in an accident, he was my father figure, as we grew older he again became my brother and my friend.
We have shared a lot of history, with the deaths of our father, mother and three brothers, and his son Billy...lots of sad times as well as lots of good times.
He loved each and every Family Reunion, he invited friends as well as relatives. He looked forward to it each year. He was the life of the party.
He took his responsibilities very serious but always had time for his family & friends. He love his wife, Caroline & family...
As his health declined he never stopped caring for others.
Everyone that knew him will never forget him, I will not either and I will miss him so much.Your sister, Mary
