Nigel Willis Obituary

Nigel Eric Willis, of Alexandria, VA, passed away surrounded by his children on October 16, 2025.
Known to many as "The Woodstone Specialist," Nigel built a successful career in real estate, forging relationships that lasted long beyond the closing table. His clients became friends, and his friends became family.
Faith played an important role in Nigel's life. He was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he devoted countless hours to outreach initiatives and church programs.
Nigel was a longtime attendee of the Old Timers Reunion, where he proudly achieved R.O.O.T. (Real Original Old Timer) status. As a dedicated caver and TRA Fellow, he gave countless hours to projects like the Kiddie Koral and brought laughter and energy as the emcee of the OTR awards show — roles he cherished and that made him a true staple of the Old Timers community.
A lifelong champion of rugby, Nigel was deeply involved with the Potomac Rugby Referees and the Potomac Rugby Union, serving the sport he loved and helping to grow USA Rugby, championing the growth of the sport through high schools across the country. His passion for the game reflected his character — loyal, spirited, and unafraid to stand tall.
Standing at 6'3", Nigel truly commanded any room he entered. But more than his stature, it was his fierce friendship, quick wit, and guiding belief — "Where there is a WILL IS a way" — that left a mark on everyone who knew him.
He loved the outdoors, spending time with family and friends on the Potomac River, at Wintergreen, or walking the trails at Huntley Meadows Park, where he was well known for his trail maintenance, bird watching, and education efforts. At home, he cheered on his beloved D.C. sports teams, from the Redskins to the Nationals — never more joyful than when he witnessed their World Series victory in 2019.
Nigel was preceded in death by his parents, Renee and Eric Willis, and his brother, Martin Willis. He is survived by his children, Brittney Murdock (Patrick), Amanda Willis, and Garrick Willis, by his granddaughters, Afton and Holly Murdock, mother of his children, Lori Willis and nephew Eric Willis (Meghan) and their children.
His legacy lives on in the communities he served, the friends he loved, and the family who will forever carry his spirit forward. A Memorial Service will be held at a later time.

Our deepest sympathy goes out Brittney, Amanda, Garrick and Lori. We remember with fondness being neighbors on Parsons Ct., serving with Nigel on the HOA board and spending time with him at PS. What a great guy, with a huge heart and even bigger presence. Rest in peace, friend.

Nigel, it was an honor to have known you. We had great times with awards, the kiddie koral, and playing poker. I will continue to try to win trophies in your honor. I will look after the kids for you and know you are smiling from the heavens. Rest easy, my friend.

Nigel sat in front of us at Nationals games for 15 years. He was die-hard fan, and a devoted father. He is missed.
