Norma Tejera Obituary
Mima was preceded in death by her parents, Andres and Amparo Perez, and her sisters, Beba Cabrera and Nancy Valdez.
Mima was born on October 18, 1933 in Cuba. She met her soulmate, Alberto, whom she affectionately called "Papi," in 1950 and the two wed in 1952. Throughout their 72-year marriage, the pair welcomed three children and eight grandchildren. Despite raising a family of her own, Mima regularly volunteered at The Children's Inn and local elementary schools.
Known to her grandchildren as "Abuela," Mima was loyal to her family, kind to strangers, and always willing to sneak her grandkids a sweet treat (specifically the Cuban soda, Jupina). She never met a dog she didn't pet or a chocolate that she didn't like. She loved her children fiercely. Yet above all else, she was Papi's girl and she cherished him until her final breath.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 10103 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902 with a viewing prior starting at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mima's name to The Children's Inn at NIH.
