Pare Lorentz Obituary

LORENTZ PARE LORENTZ Filmmaker Pare Lorentz died Friday at his home in Frankfort, Kentucky. He was 73. Born February 11, 1937 in New York City, Pare grew up outside the city in a small community called Snedens Landing overlooking the Hudson River. Snedens Landings is known as a small hamlet where many actors and TV personalities reside. A graduate of Harvard University, Pare was well-known for his industrial and documentary films. He was a member of the International Documentary Association and chairman of its Pare Lorentz Award Committee. The award honored Pare''s late father, also named Pare, who was considered to be the "father of documentary films". Survivors include his wife, Jane Choate Lorentz; a sister, Tilly Grey of The Villages, Florida; a half-sister, Sarah Barber of Guilford, Connecticut; a step-sister, Helen Tomkins of Santa Barbara, California; and a stepbrother, Richard Tomkins of Croton, New York. Besides his father, Pare was also preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Richardson Bates, and his step-mother, Elizabeth Meyer Lorentz. Pare''s body has been cremated and a memorial service is scheduled for later this summer on the island of Martha''s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort, Kentucky is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Jane, I was so sorry to hear that you lost Pare. I know you two had a wonderful life together and will keep the memory of him as a special person, one that made you smile everyday. Your old friend, Ron Vickers ( from Potomac school )
