Patricia Patsy Marie Šoln, 82, of Vienna, VA, passed away on October 13, 2025, leaving a larger than life legacy of strength, caring, and kindness spanning across the U.S. From her childhood home in Riverside, CA, to the Washington metro region where she raised her daughter Helen. Patsy's was a life hallmarked by giving back through her career as a children's librarian, being an active member in the Methodist Church, and earning the admiration and love of all who knew her.
Patsy was born on June 21, 1943 to Dr. Herman and Marie Stone in Amarillo Air Force Base, TX. At age 8, she moved with her parents to Riverside, CA, and watched with pride as her father helped found the still-operating Riverside Medical Clinic while her mom continued to practice nursing. After graduating from high school in Riverside, Patsy went on to graduate from UCLA and later earn her Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin. While at UCLA, she also met and later married a dashing young physics professor named Josip Šoln. Following their wedding, they slowly crossed the country as Josip took various positions, eventually retiring as a Theoretical Physicist from the U.S. Army. As they slowly worked their way East, Patsy enjoyed her career as a librarian, teacher, and children's librarian at public schools, retiring from Great Falls Elementary School in Great Falls, VA.
An Addison's disease survivor since her major crisis in 1976, where her physician father flew across the country himself to diagnose and save her life, Patsy took nothing for granted. She flourished and lived a life filled with gusto, traveling, learning, growth, and love. She passes on this outlook on life to her only child, Helen Šoln, whom Patsy took on her first International trip at 10 months old.
Patsy is survived by Josip and Helen Šoln, her brother Richard (Dick) Stone, and Helen's husband, Carlos M. Fuentes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Riverside Medical Clinic Charitable Foundation (RMCCF) (
