Dear Marty & Michelle and family, I still miss my buddy, He could lift my spirits whenever I was down. I still have many articles he gave me as gifts. The entire Carmelites society have welcomed me even to this day. I still have contact with many of them to this day. Hope every thing is well with you all. Take care and God bless.

My deepest condolences to the McMahon family and the Carmelite family on the loss of Fr. Pat. He preached a beautiful retreat for our third Order Region earlier this year, was very generous with his time and knowledge although he was occupied about his brother who had ended up in the hospital with a concerning illness. Fr. Pat was delighted he could drive to see him and other family members after. He willingly shared his wisdom and experience and was encouraging to the Third Order. May he rest in peace and enjoy the company of the God he loved.
God's peace and consolation to all who will miss him.

While teaching in DC, Father McMahon presided on occasion at our suburban Maryland parish. One of the many remarkable things about this wonderful priest was that each week he spent time memorizing the upcoming Sunday Gospel reading so that he could truly proclaim it. He mentioned once to me that memorizing for him was not an easy task, but this was something that he very much wanted to do. This extra effort was such a gift to us. This great priest was a gift to all who knew him!

Fr Pat: I can't believe you are gone! Who can we turn to for insightful commentary (through your wonderful blog) on current issues a day clear-eyed view of what is spiritually important vs what is not. I'm sure you are delighted with your new position, but we will feel your loss for a very long time. R.I.P.

I am a parishoner of St. Therese Church in Cresskill, NJ. My husband and I often clapped when he completed a homily which I know embarrassed him very much.
Father Pat was a gift from God. His homilies and approach to life were so inspiring, admirable and reality-based. His message was always clear, with marching orders to go forward and do better. I have great respect and fondness for him. I prayed that his suffering would be short. He endured all with grace and humility. He was a role model for all of us. A cut above. He leaves an indelible mark for me. Rest in peace, dear Fr. Pat. No more pain.

We started our love affair with you many years ago when we went with you as you left Washington and moved to your first parish in
Bergen County. And then all those family meals and good times together over the years.
You were a wonderful blessing to us and our children.

Dear members of the McMahon Family,
Your brother, Pat, and I were born on the same day in 1948. We were classmates at PS 67 and for eight years after that at St. Martin's School until 1962. I recall Pat walking in Abbott Road after school through one of those deep and silent winter snowstorms. A chance email some 50 years later allowed us to recall those times and our plans to read more Patristic writings in the years ahead. That time has been shorter than we thought. May we meet up again. Ave et vale semper.

Father Pat was a kind hearted and brilliant pastor. We truly enjoyed his homily on Sunday's as he always seem to captivate the audience. He was well versed and one of most enlightening pastors we came to know. He will surely be missed and I am sure he is in a better place not suffering. God Bless you and what you did for our community and Parish. RIP eternally.

Dear Marty & Michelle
I am so sorry I cannot be with you at this time. I had catarack surgery last month and not driving. Pat was my support for so many years. He was a sincere friend to me and my family. After my illness 7 years ago, we still kept in close touch. He was my pillow in more ways than one can know. Also,He was responsible for my working at Whitefriars Hall where I met many wonderful people. He telephoned me a week or so before he passed and we talked for at lease a half an hour during which time we recalled many things. He was such a kind heart and I thank both of you for allowing me to become your friend because I knew him. Remember please stay in touch with me. Take care and God Bless.

I loved Fr. McMahon for many reasons. I loved how he took on the Lay Carmelites. How he drilled in us the proper way to pray the Liturgy. I loved his grasp of Carmelite history and the way he could bring that to us. I will miss him greatly. Rest in Peace our Carmelite Brother.

Our deepest sympathies to Fr. Pat's family. We enjoyed his meaningful and inspirational homilies when he visited our parish of St. John's. We were so privileged to have him in our home to share a meal with us. He was keenly intelligent, yet lacked all pretentiousness. He was a man who not only professed but lived his Faith!
May his soul rest in peace!

Father Pat was a friend and a bright light to our family. He shared meals at our home growing up in Closter, NJ, performed marriages, was an intellectual inspiration and a spiritual presence for many, many years. One of my cherished memories is of my mother and Father Pat dancing around the room to a polka at my wedding - very fast! Almost twenty years later, he was the one leading the Rite of Committal prayers at our mother's burial. He will be greatly missed, and as the song goes, "When they built you, brother - they broke the mold.'
