Paul Baker Obituary

BAKER PAUL FRANCIS BAKER Loving son and brother and generous friend to all who knew him, Paul was born October 9, 1964 and died December 26, 2009. He earned his law degree from the University of Virginia and for many years was Vice President and General Counsel for AOL. He has been involved in numerous innovative business ventures in which his exceptional leadership skills, vision and dynamic personality led to his many successes. Family came first for Paul. He loved spending time with his parents, his brothers and sisters and, especially with his many nieces and nephews. In his short lifetime, Paul has attained the love and friendship of so many. He shared with his friends the same love and generosity of spirit as shown to his family. Paul was, and will remain larger than life. We celebrate his life! Visitation will be on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22030 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 8 p.m. A Memorial mass will be held on Saturday January 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Clifton, VA. There will be a private family burial service. Paul is survived by his parents, Henry and Betty Baker, his sister and husband, Mary and Bruce Barth, his sister and husband Margaret and Paul Harbolick, his sister and husband Claudia and Carl Sensi, his brother and wife, Peter and Cathy Baker, his sister, Christina Baker, his nieces, Elizabeth Harbolick, Julie Barth, and his nephews, Gregory and Samuel Barth, Andrew and Daniel Sensi, Patrick Harbolick, Christopher and Adam Baker. www.fmfh.com

A few years ago Paul was there for me in my darkest days, showing me more caring and concern than people I had known my whole life. I'll be forever grateful, Paul.

Paul - you were one of the best dance partners I ever had!! You were a blast to hang out with and the best capitals game ever was the 7th game against Philadelphia - Caps won in overtime and you and I had so much fun!!! My days at George Mason were more fun with you as a friend. We lost touch but you always had a special place in my heart and always will!

God bless you Paul, as well as, your family and close friends. I'll always remember you working out to a very loud "Livin' La Vida Loca", when my fiance and I visited you and Debbie.

I met Paul several times over the years but the one that stands out the most was when he was the best man for my sister's wedding to Paul's best friend Michael Maddox. He was gracious and fun-loving - always in the middle of whatever was the most fun! I know he will leave a special mark on all those who were blessed to have him in their lives. Prayers and strength to his friends and family.

My deepest sympathies go out to Paul's family. Paul was a great leader and colleague whom I feel very fortunate to have gotten to work with. I'll never forget his enthusiasm, terrific sense of humor, and the passion he brought to the legal department at AOL. Years later, I still smile thinking of many great times working with Paul.

While I only met Paul a few times, I will never forget him arriving at his first Judged Pleasure Ride wearing a motorcycle helmet as a riding helmet. It still makes me giggle to see him heading down the trail wearing that goofy thing. My deepest condolences to the Baker family. May his memory bring you comfort during quiet moments.

A remembrance - at an early AOL Legal offsite, we each took a Myers Briggs personality or similar test aimed at suggesting our natural career choice. All but two of us tested positive for lawyering - Paul, somewhat embarrassed, came up with priest or something close. He was a great lawyer (thoughtful, excellent judgment, all the rest), but this insight confirmed something we all already knew and liked - - Paul was simply a great guy, interested in those around him, full of life, playful, bemused, someone you were glad to call a friend. We will all miss him.
