Percival Smith "Percy" Johnson

Percival "Percy" Smith Johnson, 78, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025. Born on May 25, 1947, in Lexington, he was the son of the late Hughey E. Johnson and Margaret Golda Smith Veney.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Percy served two tours during the Vietnam War, including one combat tour. Despite suffering from disabilities as a result of exposure to Agent Orange, he remained deeply proud of his service and his country. He graduated from Lylburn Downing High School and later retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he was a respected union leader. Percy was also a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington. Percy's warm smile, infectious personality and love of gospel and blues music touched everyone he met.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Johnson; his sister, Inez Tyson; and his brother, Luke Veney.

He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Priscilla "Lavette" Philyaw (Larry), Roslyn Hopkins-Fernandes (Gregg) and Delsa Johnson Fauconier; grandchildren Hollis, De'Ana, Caitlyn, Avari and Michael; great-grandchild Khaliya; siblings fraternal twin Patricia Henderson, Marquita Johnson Journiette, Anita Johnson Davoll, John Stepen Johnson (Lucilla), Edwin Andre' Johnson (Blair), Juana Veney Johnson (Dennis "DJ"), Robert Veney Jr. (Laura) and Estelle Veney; uncle Lenwood Johnson Sr. (Emma); a very special nephew Lorenzo Tyson (Jaquetta); and best friend Gerrold "Jerry" Walker; along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Harrison Funeral Home, 714 S. Main Street, Lexington, Virginia, the Reverend McKinley A. Williams, Pastor, First Baptist Church of Lexington, VA, officiating. A repast will immediately follow at the Holiday Inn Express, 880 North Lee Highway, Lexington, Virginia.
