PETE SCAMARDO Obituary

SCAMARDO PETE THOMAS SCAMARDO (Age 77) Pete Scamardo died on March 7, 2016, at his home in McLean, Virginia surrounded by his family. He was born August 11, 1938 in Hearne, Texas to Lucille and Marion P. Scamardo. He graduated from Hearne High School, then attended and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1960 where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. Pete married Andrea DeStefano on August 2, 1964 at St. Mary''s Catholic Church in Hearne, Texas, and together they had two daughters. After relocating the family from Texas, Pete started his own business in Northern Virginia as a roofing contractor, and in 1979 began to act as general contractor and developer of townhouse and office condominiums. By the early 1980''s he had grown his company to include leasing and management of Class A office buildings in addition to development. Pete was one of the early visionaries to develop in the Dulles Toll Road Corridor and was instrumental in the growth of that market. During his career, his company, The Centennial Companies, had developed more than four million square feet of office space and was at one point the largest office development company in Northern Virginia. He was one of the area''s founding members of NAIOP Northern Virginia (National Association of Industrial and Office Parks) and served as past chairman, and was a member of NVBIA (Northern Virginia Building Industry Association) where he served as president in 1990. Although he spent most of his time pursuing his work as a commercial developer, his main hobby and passion for the last 30 years was the family''s Sunnyside Farm in Upperville, Virginia. It is here that Pete and his wife renovated the 200 year old farmhouse and barn, kept horses, raised cattle, and enjoyed weekends and holidays with their family. Pete is survived by his wife of 51 years, Andrea R. Scamardo; daughter, Stefani and her husband, Warren Haynes, of Bedford Corners, New York; daughter, Dina Mackney, of McLean, Virginia, and three grandchildren, Lily and Jackson Mackney, and Hudson Haynes. He is survived by his sister, Betty Oney, of Fort Worth, Texas and her two children. He will always be remembered by his family as a loving, caring and supportive husband, father and grandfather. Services will be held at St. Luke Catholic Church in McLean, VA on Friday, March 11. Viewing/Visitation at 10 a.m., a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., followed by a reception. Interment will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Upperville, Virginia at 3 p.m. Services will be held at St. Luke Catholic Church in McLean, VA on Friday, March 11.
