PETER KEEN Obituary

KEEN Peter G. W. Keen Of Waynesboro, VA passed away on October 26, 2021 at the age of 79. He was born in Singapore in 1941, grew up in Reading, UK, and lived most of his adult life in the US, including many years in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia. Peter studied English literature at Balliol College, Oxford and had a great love of books and words. He was a voracious reader, passionate about Shakespeare, and had an incredible vocabulary, which came in handy in Boggle matches with his daughter. He recently discovered the New York Times Spelling Bee and wouldn't go to bed without getting to Genius. After getting his MBA and PhD at Harvard Business School, he became a professor, a noted international consultant, and a public speaker. He authored over 30 books on business, information technology, and innovation and was a professor at a number of business and technological universities, including MIT and Stanford in the US and Mexico's EGADE. In recent years, he focused his writing on tea - its history, cultivation, and science, and the pleasure of drinking it - and wrote three books about tea and was a Contributing Editor for Tea Journey magazine and Tea Editor for STiR magazine. Peter is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Sherry, who he met by chance when they sat next to each other on an airplane. They loved to travel, visiting six continents and over 20 countries together, and shared a love of animals. He is also survived by his daughter, Sara Keen; his son and his son-in-law, Christopher Keen and Joaquin Figueroa; and his sisters Patti Budd, Jenny Bigger, and Judy Covert. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lucy. He will also be greatly missed by his father-in-law Bill Richardson and his wife Peggy. In remembrance of his life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made in his name to the Cancer Research Institute, https://fundraise.cancerresearch.org/PeterKeen or Bat Conservation & Rescue of Virginia, www.virginiabats.org, a favorite organization of his. A celebration of life is being planned in the spring. Compassionate Cremation Service of Ruckersville, VA is handling the arrangements.

Professor Peter Keen was one of the greatest persons that I have ever interacted with. He was very noble, kind, helpful, respectful, and always willing to spend time on the needs of others. He was extremely intelligent and visionary, as well as humble, which is a very rare combination. I did my doctoral research under his supervision during 1979-80 when he worked at MIT. I remember visiting him at his house in Harvard. Professor Keen changed my life in many ways.
May his soul rest in peace.

From 1979 to 1982 I worked for Peter while he was at MIT. I don´t know if I´ve ever met a kinder person. His wit and insights dazzled. One summer mwife and crawling daughter house sat for the Keen family in Harvard, and I remember Alice and Lucy, Sara, and Christopher. Peter changed my life at a time when I needed a good friend and mentor.

I met Peter through his lovely wife, Sherry. He was always quiet yet loved to joke. He had the sweetest smile. My heart and condolences go out to his whole family. He will be very very missed.

I'm very sorry to hear about Mr. Peter passed.
He was a very kind person, soft in his way to talk and very pleasant to hear his elegant way to speak. It was a real honor for me that Mr. Peter and his wife trusted my profesional services all these years.
My sincere condolences to his wife Ms. Sherry and the rest of the family.
He will be missed!
