PHILIP GADELL Obituary
Philip Joseph Gadell
Known to his friends as Joe and his family as PopPop, passed away on February 3, 2022. He was 70 years old. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Joe graduated from Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School in 1970. He then earned a degree in hospitality from Northern Virginia Community College. In 1976 he met his wife, Barbara, at Commonwealth Doctors Hospital where she was his nurse. Joe was a loving Hhusband, devoted dad and the best PopPop and his life revolved around his family. He instilled in them the values of faith, integrity and persistence. A Funeral Mass and a Celebration of Life will be held on March 5 at 11 a.m, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8601 Wolftrap Road SE, Vienna, VA 22182. Joe is preceded in death by his loving parents, Margaret Nell Gadell and Francis Edward Gadell, and son-in-law Greg Hyer. His survivors include his daughters Jessica Hyer (David Lindsey), and Rebecca (Matt) Hudson, his sons Douglas (Alisha) Gadell, and Joshua Gadell. Joe was the brother of Carlas (Dave) Starling, Laura (Phil) Carroll, Joyce Burrows, Tim (Linda), Sam, Tom (Marty), Mary Beth (Steve) Roesener, Frank (Sondra) and Mike Gadell. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren Faith Hyer, Dylan Hyer, Ava Hyer, Brad Gadell, Gavin Hyer, Harper Lindsey, Hannah Hudson, Colin Hyer, Emerson Gadell, Violet Hudson, and baby Gadell.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Joe Gadell Alzheimer's Memorial Fund on alz.orgCondolences may be offered online atwww.richandthompson.com

Our family met the Gadells when we moved to Vienna and joined OLGC. I went to O´Connell with "Joey". He was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. Sending prayers for all of the family.
