PHOEBE A. LAYTON (Age 101)
Phoebe Anderson Layton died peacefully at her home in Washington, DC, on November 26, 2018. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Layton; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Born in Lawrenceville, VA, on March 19, 1917, Phoebe was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, VA, Talladega College and Michigan State University. A Math Teacher and Guidance Counselor, she retired from Jefferson Junior High in SW Washington in 1977. She was predeceased by her husband, two daughters and her two siblings. Services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 728 23rd Street, NW, Washington, DC, following the Omega Omega service of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name will be welcomed at the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, www.bishopwalkerschool.org.www.mcguire-services.com

My deepest sympathy is extended to the family, friends and sorors of Mrs. Phoebe A. Layton. She is and will continue to be remembered as an outstanding educatorMath/Geometry teacher my teacher at Jefferson JHS and whose gentle influence persuaded me to extend my math education however so brief in college. She will be remembered for her kindness and enthusiastic support as a Soror, friend and SW neighbor. May her memory live in the hearts of all whose lives she has enriched.
