Rainer Gomez-Arndt Obituary

August 31, 1966 – November 15, 2024
Rainer, a beloved artist, humanitarian, and animal lover passed away suddenly. He was born and raised in Miami, FL, Rainer was surrounded by a large, loving family from an early age. His passion for the arts blossomed in childhood, particularly his love for nature and creative expression.
Rainer pursued his artistic ambitions at the International College of Fine Arts in Ft. Lauderdale. He then completed an apprenticeship in stain glass to further cultivate his passion for the arts.
Rainer later moved to the greater DC area to be near his mother. There, he studied sculpture at the prestigious Corcoran School of Arts and Design, where his dedication to learning and creative exploration flourished.
A true lifelong learner, Rainer's travels expanded his knowledge and deepened his appreciation for the world's beauty, which he translated into his work. His commitment to fine arts led him to a successful career as an independent artist, creating original interior painted design, murals, frescos, boarders and motifs, faux finishes and original designs for both corporate and private clients. His craftsmanship and vision left an indelible mark on the art community.
Rainer's love of life was matched only by his compassion for others. He was a passionate humanitarian and a devoted advocate for those in need. His empathy, kindness, and loving spirit touched everyone who knew him. Rainer also shared a special bond with his Golden Retriever, Oliver, who was his companion and best friend for two decades.
Rainer is survived by his mother, Ellen Tuttle; his stepmother, Elina Gomez; his siblings, Mario, Gina, Jason, and Michelle; his godchildren, Kristen and Luca; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including his longtime friend, Wallis McClain.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Covenant, 2666 Military Rd., Arlington, VA 22207.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rainer's memory to Doctors Without Borders, whose work he deeply admired.
