RALPH LOUK Obituary

RALPH G. LOUK
On June 11, 2016, passed peacefully at his home in Fairfax, VA surrounded by family and care-givers. He was born on August 2, 1925, in Washington, DC, son of William Wesley Louk and Nellie Beahm Louk. Ralph grew up on a small farm on Church Street in Vienna, Virginia, graduating from Fairfax High School in 1941. He attended Strayer Business College and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a clerk/stenographer. Ralph served in the United States Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946 and then attended The George Washington University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He graduated with a Juris Doctor of Law in 1951. He began practicing law in the City of Fairfax as an assistant prosecutor for Fairfax County. He was elected Commonwealth Attorney in 1963, and served during a tumultuous time in the County. Returning to private practice in 1967, particularly real estate and zoning matters, Ralph became deeply involved in the establishment and growth of Fairfax Hospital, the Northern Virginia Training Center and later in the charitable activities of Pleasant View, Inc., in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He relished the return of baseball to DC almost as much as his beloved Dixieland jazz and an afternoon playing first base with the Northern Virginia Senior Softball League. Ralph was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lyn Louk. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Wanda Lee Durst Louk; daughters Vicki Louk Balint (Frank) and Sherri Louk McMasters (Scott); grandchildren Dr. Corinne A. Balint (Matthew D. Rannals), Francis J. Balint III, Gregory G. McMasters, Kimberlee C. McMasters, 2nd Lt. Robert T. Balint, USMC, Emily Anne Balint and great-grandson George Darwin Rannals - all of whom knew him simply and endearingly as "Ralph." Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna. A service will be held on Thursday, June 16 at Money & King at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Pleasant View, Inc. Residential Programs, P.O. Box 426, Broadway, Va. 22815 or Capital Caring, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, Virginia 22042. Semper Paratus

Mr. Louk was always a joy to be around. We often walked or discussed the land in Madison and shared family histories. He enjoyed knowing others were respecting his land and harvesting game. We will all miss him.

Ralph was a good friend and counselor to my dad and to me. They were occasionally partners in business and neighbors from the days in Country Club Hills. I learned much from Ralph, and think of him often. My condolences and best wishes for his family.
