It seemed as though Randy won the Seven Corners Timber Championship every year until I FINALLY beat him in 1973 with Allen BJ. He threw a wonderful celebration party each winning year at his beautiful place in Arlington, around the pool.
In order to try to keep pace, Betty and I had a tent pitched and let the good times roll in Warrenton. Of course, that was short lived, since I was done, and Randy kept on winning.
He was a serious competitor, and every race was the Super Bowl to him. That is why we battled on the race course, but I certainly considered him a dear friend off.
Randy´s legacy will live on, and God bless him.

Across the fields, in the sunshine galloped Mr. Rouse and his oft times-sidekick our neighbor, Jack Crippen. My childhood would have been lesser without memories of Mr. Rouse's big horses. Thankful I reminded Mr. Rouse of those days at Oatlands last spring. It was so fulfilling to watch him full of excitement when he said, "Oh Jack ? You knew Jack Crippen?!" I said Yessir, I watched you both ride and race in the good old days when everyone had backyard ponies and horses and the world was wide open. Those were the days ! Now look what they've done to our fields . . .

Randy was an honest, simple man who lived each day to its fullest. He kept his circle of true friends very small and very close, and he loved and took good care of my dear friend, his wife Michele. He was an original. RIP, Randy!

Virginia gentleman in every sense of the word, dear friend, who I will miss greatly. What more can one say after a century of success in business and building friendships. In the final analysis, I suppose the true measure of a man is not in the number of awards he received or degrees he attained, but by the family and friends with whom he surrounds himself, and the imprint he made upon those who came within his influence. In that regard, Mr. Rouse leaves a priceless legacy.

A Legend is gone. When people express amazement about Randy's age at death, I remember him beating me to death over timber in the 70's when he was 65 plus.
What a great life, and I personally feel that a great friend has gone.
