I want to express my deepest condolences to the entire family. It has been many years since we were neighbors in Rota, but I remember my good friendship with his son Robert. I’m filled with sorrow knowing what Capt Fruchterman’s family is going through now, as our family has suffered the same loss. How sad it is we will say our final goodbyes to these two men, both wonderful fathers and husbands, on the same day. May the many wonderful memories bring all of you comfort.

Dick was very kind, over 25 years ago, to a very junior Foreign Service officer at USIA when a garage that was supposed to be fixing her car (a few weeks before she was going overseas) totaled it instead in an accident. Dick gave some "legal" advice that solved the problem. What a great guy! I've never forgotten his kindness. mdc
