Richard Gallagher Obituary

GALLAGHER RICHARD GALLAGHER Richard Gallagher, 62, died March 15, 2008 after a long courageous fight with cancer. He was born August 14, 1945 in New York City, NY. He lived in Hillsborough, NH until 1963 when he joined the US Army Engineers. He retired from Fort Belvoir, VA in August 1985 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He served in Vietnam, France, Germany and several locations throughout the USA. He attended Hillsboro Deering High School and earned a BS in Business Administration from The University of Maryland. He was a member and past Deacon of the East Washington Baptist Church, participant in NH Tres Dias Community, a life member of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post 59 of Hillsborough, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Officers Association and the National Rifle Association and a volunteer for BSA Troop 118 Fort Belvoir, and past Road Agent for the Town of Washington. He worked for Valley Transporation as fleet mechanic and school bus driver, and was a substitute teacher at Hillsboro Deering Elementary, Middle, and High School. He is predeceased by his mother, Ora Gallagher of Hillsboro Upper Village, his father, Roy Gallagher of Amarillo, TX, a brother, Roy Gallagher, Jr. of Pinellas Park, FL and Sister Rose Marie Hunt of Tampa, FL. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beth Blakney Gallagher of East Washington, NH; a daughter, Marybeth Walker of Rochester, NH; two sons, Richard Gallagher II and Stephen Gallagher of Portsmouth, NH; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Maryann Taylor of St. Petersburg, FL and Margaret Totte of Hillsboro, NH. Services will be at the East Washington Baptist Church, 2234 East Washington Road, Washington, NH 03280 on Saturday, March 22, 2008 with a viewing from 2:30 to 3p.m. and a funeral to follow at 3: p.m. Private graveside services at a later date. Donations may be made to the East Washington Baptist Church (EWBC) Purlingbeck Hall Building Fund, 2234 East Washington Road or the Washington Rescue Squad, 7 Half Moon Pond Road, both Washington, NH 03280.
