Naval Auditor
Richard K. Greenlee, 80, a longtime Supervisory Computer Systems Specialist died February 25, 2006 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He lived in Annandale, VA.
He was born in Detroit, MI. His family moved to Traverse City, MI where he grew up. In college he supported himself as a musician. He entered the military as a seaman in 1944, was commissioned as an Ensign in '46, served until '48. He was later recalled to active service in 1950 and served an additional two years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He received a BS and MS from University of Michigan.
Dick had the good fortune to move to Cleveland where he met and married Ethel. He then joined the Department of the Navy as a civilian and they moved to DC where he served at both the Navy Finance Center and Navy Audit Service where he was a pioneer in the auditing of automated systems. He spent 30 years with the Department of the Navy before retiring in 1984.
Dick will be missed for his quick wit and knowledge. He always had a sparkle in his eyes and took joy in sharing his humor and knowledge with others. He said that his one regret was that one could never get in enough fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Ethel Greenlee of Annandale, and brother Jerry Greenlee of Grand Rapids, MI, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at DEMAINE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5308 Backlick Rd., Springfield, VA 22151, Thursday, March 2, 2006 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Interment will be held in Grand Rapids, MI at a later date.
