Richard McCullough Obituary

Richard Cornwell McCullough, Jr. ("Poppa" to his children, grandchildren, and their friends), 73, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025 at his home in Midlothian, VA surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kimi; four children: Leslie Poling (Scott) of Charlotte Court House, VA, Elizabeth Kratson (Mark) of Midlothian, VA, Robert McCullough (Lindsay) of Little Elm, TX, and Shannon McCullough of Midlothian, VA; 10 grandchildren: Riley, Matthew, Nora, David, Ryan, Lila, Olivia, Noah, Hailey, and Richard IV "Mac"; his siblings, Cathy Shultz (Mike), Mindy Blandon, Charlie McCullough (Leslie), and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents Mac and Minette, and his son Richard Cornwell McCullough, III.

Richard was born on August 10, 1951 in Washington, DC to Richard Cornwell McCullough and Minette Prigg McCullough. He is a graduate of Einstein High School in Kensington, MD and The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and earned a BBA in accounting in 1973. He immediately went to work for Arthur Andersen, where he became a partner in 1984. He became the managing partner of their Richmond office in 1991 and later worked with Ernst and Young. He had a successful accounting career of 38 years and retired in 2011. Richard stayed active with William and Mary, serving on their Accounting Program Advisory Board, recruiting for his accounting firm, and attending football games. He served as president of the Robert E. Lee Boy Scout Council and was an active member of the Midlothian Rotary, serving time as their executive treasurer. In retirement, he was able to pursue his hobbies by playing tennis, golfing, reading daily, and taking trips to Disney with his family.

A service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, 13621 West Salisbury Rd, Midlothian, VA on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the William and Mary Athletic Foundation or the American Cancer Society, Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
