RICHARD OMORI Obituary


RICHARD T. OMORI  Major, USA (Retired)  
Of Annandale, VA passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2017. Born in Laupahoehoe, Hawaii on October 1, 1919 to Shikataro and Iwano Omori. He graduated from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, HI. He was on active duty at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred. He served in WWII in the 100th Infantry Battalion and in the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) as a translator in the Pacific theater and was later stationed in Okinawa, Fort Bragg, Fort Holabird, Japan and Washington, DC. After retiring from the US Army, he worked as a research analyst in the Office of The Surgeon General's Medical Intelligence Office and at the Armed Forces Medical Intelligence Center, Ft. Detrick, MD. Upon his retirement from government service, he enjoyed visiting his grandchildren, bowling, golfing, working in the yard and doing word search puzzles. An avid bowler all his life, he could be found bowling with the Fort Belvoir seniors until the age of 96. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty; his five children, Dexter, David (Deborah), Deborah, Donna Mohrig (Richard) and Dean (Carolyn); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 12 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Annandale, VA. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made in his name to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, 200 N. Glebe Road, Suite 506, Arlington, VA 22203. (www.ccda.net)

What an amazing life an legacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the extended Omori family and all of us as we have lost yet another of the Greatest Generation. Thank you Sir.
