My sincere condolences to the Shadyac Family.
Dick and I were friends at St. Michael's College starting in 1946 and until he left for law school.
Dick was very smart and he excelled in every subject. We were in the same classes and there was a very friendly rivalry between us about who was at the top of the class. We saw a lot of each other during those years.
I followed his career through press clippings and blurbs in the St. Michael's Alumni News.
I always meant to get in touch with him since we both wound up in the DC Area, but I kept putting it off.
He was a friend many years ago and he turned out to be a wonderful person fulfilling the promise that was evident way back then.
Although he might not need them, you can be sure of my prayers for him and the family.

An "angel" of a man. My family met Mr. S.when my 2yr old daughter was stricken with ALL. Her name is Wendy Davis and she is now in college.
We traveled often to share our St. Jude story. Tom, you even sent tapes of your movies....PATCH ADAM, LIAR LIAR (just to name a few)to my daughter. Your loved one shared his birthday (Aug.11)with my father.
Thanks Rick and Tom for sharing your dad with the St Jude Family.
We love you all and share your sorrow.

God bless all of you.
Teresa Davis of Memphis, Tn. (Wendy's mom).

Much love my family have for your loved one. My daughter is a cancer survivor. We came to the hospital in 1992 when Mr. Shadyac became our CEO.

To the Shadyac Family,
When our 13 yr. old Kathleen was a patient at St. Jude in 1995, we met Dick - who helped us in our transition from residing in Chicago to living in Memphis for her treatment. Aside from St. Jude now being our home away from home, Dick surely attributed to that feeling. He made us feel comfortable, and genuinely cared about us - as if Kathleen was family. Dick had a heart of gold, and to meet him - well, you both had a new friend. Kathleen is now healthy and 27 thanks to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Dick's love and devotion for the hospital will forever be remembered by us, as will he. Our deepest sympathies go out to you...

"Mr. S" as he was affectionately known - or "Big Dick", also affectionately spoken (but in his absence!), was truly one of the greatest, and positive influences on my life growing up and by extension upon my adult life as well. There’s no way I can to him reciprocate the countless trips to Ocean City, or basketball practices, or the endless other occasions he spent time with me growing up that simply made me feel important. But yet, a legacy he leaves - unknowable to him - is the importance that I now place on doing the same with my children and their friends. He has and will, even after death, continue to benefit more people than he will ever know as they live a life made better by his examples and deeds.

I was so sorry to hear of
Mr Shadyac passing. I was the
courier for Commomwealth
National Bank in the middle 1960s.I had to go to his office
from time to time for him to
sign bank papers. He was always
so nice and friendly to me. I
enjoyed his stories, and kindness. As big a lawyer that he was, he always had time to talk to me the bank courier. I
wish his family the very best in life.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Shadyac family,

To our family, Dick was a dear friend, lawyer and confidant. In addition to knowing him for many years, my brother and his wife serve the St. Jude organization in Houston and saw him often when he was there. He will be truly missed by us all.

May his memory be eternal. God rest his soul.

Rick and Tom,

I was very saddened to hear about your father's passing. When a loved one dies, a family, a lifetime of memories, and a lot of pain are left behind. For the survivors, the pain is just beginning. Hang onto the memories as that is what sustains us.

He was a great man, a dear friend of our family, and he will be missed by many.

Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Love,
Linda Nader

Dick was a great friend to me and a sincere, caring helper to anyone in need--generous, considerate, kind, thoughtful, unassuming and understanding. The number of "people in crisis" he helped is legion. As one such person in crisis, I will never forget the personal assistance this great good Samaritan rendered to me. We shall all greatly miss him.
My sincerest condolences to you Lynn, Rick, Tommy, Phil and the rest of the family, immediate and extended. Be assured of my prayers.

I'm very sad to hear that Uncle Dick has passed away. He was always so full of life and always charged into everything he did. He was my father's closest friend, which is why Mom and Dad chose him for my Godfather. So many owe him so much for his work with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, his practice as an attorney and his willingness to help others. His footsteps leave a clear path for others. He will be followed, but never replaced.
