Robert Brown Obituary

Robert Duane Brown, Jr., known to ifriends as Bob or Bo, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the age of 81. Born in 1942 in Fayetteville, NC to Florence Beatty Brown and Robert D. Brown, Sr. He was reared by his mother in St. Louis, MO.

Roberrt graduated from St. Louis University High School in 1960. He was an Eagle Scout and National Merit Scholar. He earned a B.S. Degree from the University of Cincinnati, and attended Oxford University and the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

Robert's professional career included work in the research labs of Alcoa and Reynolds Metals. He especially enjoyed his work in metal recycling at the U.S. Bureau of Mines. When the Bureau of Mines closed he transferred to the U.S. Geological Survey from which he retired in 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Florence Beatty Brown and Mr.. Robert D. Brown, Sr., and loving step-mom, Agnes Brown.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, his loving wife of fifty four years, Dr. Annie Woodley Brown; two sisters, Agnes Brown-Jones and Robin Green; a niece Jalisa Green and great nephew Milton Jerome. Two cousins like sisters, Robin Alexander, Esa and Karen Alexander and their families; a number of sisters and brothers in law and their families, godchildren and dear friends.

Robert was an active member for more than 30 years at Episcopal Church of Ascension, 633 Sligo Avenue in Silver Spring, MD.

A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Visitation is at 10:15 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to Church of Ascension's Outreach or Homeless Ministries.
