ROBERT A. DIETRICH M.D., J.D.
Robert A. Dietrich, M.D., J.D., 89, of Bethesda, MD, died peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2022, after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alison (D'Arcy) Dietrich. He is also survived by his six cherished daughters: Anne Marie (Gus) Ardura, Alison (Peter) Comas, Karen (Tim) Scanlan, Kathleen Dietrich, Patricia (Andrew) Kolesar, and Ellen (Russ) Witmer; and by Norma and Chuck Vinson; and by his 22 treasured grandchildren. He was born in 1933 in Buffalo, NY to the late Charles and Evelyn Dietrich. He is survived by his sister Joan (Michael) Silver; and he was predeceased by his brother Charles (Patricia) and his sister Mary Ann (Willard) Sanscrainte. He is also survived by his loving D'Arcy siblings by marriage to Alison.
He studied at Canisius College (Class of 1955), GU Medical School (Class of 1959), Mayo Clinic (1960-64), and GW Law School (Class of 1974); and he was certified in Nuclear Medicine (1977). Dr. Dietrich was a Washington, D.C. area pathologist for many years, President of the D.C. Medical Society (1987-88), and CEO of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (1982-92). Dr. Dietrich served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps (1964-66) and was a proud veteran. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution through his mother's ancestral line.
Visiting hours with the Dietrich family will be held at the Church of the Little Flower, Bethesda, MD, on Thursday, August 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Little Flower on Friday, August 19 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

To the Dietrich Family. I was sorry to learn of Bob's falling asleep in the the Lord. I had the pleasure of working with him when we worked at the ASCP in the 80s and 90s. Bob was a very good administrator who genuinely cared about the ASCP and it's continued success. May he rest in peace and may his memory be forever eternal.
