Robert W. Etheredge, Jr. "BOB," of Reston, VA, passed away gently and peacefully at his home on June 6, 2021. Born October 14, 1926 in Raleigh, NC, he was the only child of the late Robert Sr. and Mable (Hodges). Mable died soon after his birth, and he was lovingly raised by his stepmother, Blanche Hancock. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison. Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judith (Klein), his sons Robert W. Etheredge III (Mary Lou), Jon Etheredge (Vicki), Darren Etheredge (Aja), and Justin Etheredge (Katie), as well as four beautiful granddaughters, Laura, Rachel, Rebecca, and Maggie. Raised in rural Spring Hill, NC, Bob was a veteran of the Navy and the Air Force. He was trained as an architect, which led to several opportunities for him to live and work abroad. His career brought him to Lima, Peru, where he lived with his first wife and three children for seven years. In 1971, while working in Cali, Colombia, he met his second wife, Judy. This was also the time period in which he "starred" in the critically unacclaimed low-budget western "The Kid and the Killers." Bob married Judy in 1972, and the international travels continued as they moved to Madrid, Spain, where their two sons were born. They returned to the US in 1978, and his work as a consultant for the World Bank in the field of international development allowed him to keep traveling the globe for many years. His experiences left him with a respect for world cultures that he instilled in his children. Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor, his easy-going southern charm, and his gift to genuinely connect with everyone he met.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders.
