Robert Hartley Obituary



HARTLEY ROBERT WILLIAM HARTLEY (Age 82) Of Bethesda, MD died of a heart attack on Thursday, July 2, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dot Hartley, his four sons, Ralph, Henry, George and Albert, their wives, Tsai-Hong, Cathy, Carmela, and Brady, and three grandchildren, Stephen, Iris, and Dorothy. Born in Memphis, TN, in 1927, Bob graduated with a Bachelor''s degree in physics from Yale and earned a Ph.D from MIT in biophysics. Bob enjoyed his career as a protein chemist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda for 45 years. He loved traveling and camping with his family. Ever learning, he had a wide range of interests including bird-watching, growing fruits and berries, and ancient history. Friends and family will visit at the home of Henry and Cathy Hartley on Friday, July 10 any time from 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.

I am so sorry for you tremendous loss. I have so many childhood memories of Dr. Hartley and his family on Kingsley Ave. Whenever I had a question on any subject that my mother could not answer, she would call Dr. Hartley, because in her words, "he is the smartest man on earth."
