Robert McCarty, 87, died Wednesday, January 8, 2013 at his home in Woodbridge, Virginia. Robert, best known as "Mac," was a war veteran, having served in both World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the United States Army in 1963 with 23 years of service. After retiring from the military, he worked for Bell Technologies which eventually became AT&T, and retired in 1987. Mac was an avid "fixer-upper" and handyman, working in carpentry, masonry, welding and related jobs throughout his life. He continued to work in retail hardware into his 80's. Together with his wife, Mac enjoyed travel extensively, having visited all 50 states and dozens of foreign countries in Europe, South America, Central America and Asia. He also loved dancing and spending time outdoors. Mac is survived by his wife of 54 years, Andree; his children, Linda, Bryan and Elaine; and his grandchildren, Casey, Raeann and Nathan. The visitation for Robert McCarty will be Friday, January 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge, VA 22192.
