Robert was a friend. He was very smart and (sometimes) funny. He was good to talk with -- and he is missed.

Dr. Robert was a great guy. Smart - funny, friendly. I knew him from boating on the Bay (I work on boats and helped him get his boat). Remowned in his profession - and had about every degree you can think of. Simply - a special guy. Miss him.

It was Bob's efforts that brought Whiting Forensic Institute into compliance with hospital standards. His vision, intellectual brilliance, and genuine concern were hallmarks of true leadership. His openness to new ideas and understanding of complex situations was unparalleled. Bob will always be remebered for his love of life and family. The country has lost a giant of a man. God rest His soul. He remains in my prayers.

Dearest Ana Maria:
Today, purely by chance, I learned of Bob's recent death, was deeply saddened, did not believe what I'd been told until I read this obituary, and now, regret that I have missed his funeral mass. At the moment, I am flooded with memories of the courtly manner, intellectual brilliance, richness, and crystalline clarity of his delivery of complex concepts in the field of psychiatry, in general, and forensic psychiatry, in particular. May God bless, support, and otherwise strengthen you, your sons, and the rest of your family with the abundance of shared and cherished memories of the your lives with Bob.
I hope that we may get together at some point in the not too distant future.
PS: I'm now on staff at Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville and would love to hear from you.

I was greatly saddened to learn of Dr. Phillips passing. I recently had the pleasure of working with Dr. Phillips and immediately recognized his dedication and commitment to his craft and most importantly his patients. Dr. Phillips was committed to excellent and compassion for all who crossed his professional and personal paths. We are all better as a result of our experience with Dr. Phillips.
My deepest sympathy to his family for a loss that will not easily pass. Please know that many others share in your loss and want you to know that you will remain in our thoughts.

Those of us who worked with Dr. Phillips during his time at the APA were amazed at his energy and devotion. The field will miss him as will his many friends.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Phillips. He was my boss during his time as Deputy Medical Director at the American Psychiatric Association. I will miss his smile, support and mentoring. He was a class act. May you find comfort in knowing Robert Phillips ran a good race and finished early. God bless you!
