Robert Watt Obituary

Watt

Robert Gibbs Watt "Bob"

Robert "Bob" Watt, age 78, of McLean, VA passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024. He is survived by his loving daughters Darcy (Tom) Gurganous, Lindsey (Ossama) Alami, Chelsea (Gopal) Watt, and Kaitlyn Watt; and grandsons Tommy, Will, Dave, and Fennec.

Bob was raised in Winchester, IL and attended Grinnell College, where he won letters in football, basketball, and track. Upon graduation he received an Award for Outstanding Athletics, and was later inducted into the Grinnell Athletics Hall of Fame. Following graduation, Bob attended George Washington University Law School and graduated with honors.

In 1978, he co-founded Watt Tieder, an international government contracts and construction law firm based in the Washington DC area. As managing partner for over 30 years, his practice was highly recognized for construction disputes, arbitrations, litigation and complex surety matters. He was named to Best Lawyers in America (construction law 2005-2009) and Chambers Top Construction Lawyers in Virginia (2004-2009).

Bob will be remembered as a man who was famously competitive in work, sports, and even family lawn games. He had a contagious energy and deep love for his friends and family. Perhaps his greatest challenge was his battle with Parkinson's Disease, which he fought fiercely with his trademark mix of toughness and optimism.

Visitation will be held at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna on Friday, February 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. Service will be at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls on Sunday, February 4 at 2 p.m.
