ROLF HAYN  
Rolf Hayn, 94, of Leisure World, MD, passed away January 11, 2018. Treasured husband of 67 years to Ruth Hayn; devoted father to Eleanore Baidoo, Louis (Leslie) Hayn, Deborah Hayn Cass, and Suzanne (Louis) Schmuckler; doting grandfather to Virginia, Mara, Hannah, Lyza, Tyler, Jordan, Garrett, and Daniel. Rolf's family fled Germany to Spain due to Hitler. In Spain, he spent a happy eight years until the family had to flee once again, this time due to Franco. Reluctantly, Rolf left his beloved Spain, learned English, and joined the American army nine months later. With the help of the GI Bill he obtained his PhD in International Economics from the University of Wisconsin, where he also met his dear Ruth. Rolf had a long and varied career. He worked for multiple international organizations including the UN, OAS, and AID, in the States and all over the world. He was a Fullbright Scholar and also worked in academia, teaching in such diverse places as the Universities of Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico, and Washington. In later years he got great satisfaction from his volunteer work with Common Cause and helping those in need with their tax preparation. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 21 at 3 p.m. at Temple Sinai, 3100 Military Road, NW, Washington, DC.
