RONALD GREENLEESE Obituary

RONALD B. GREENLEESE
A stellar baseball player in his youth and respected Northern Virginia real estate broker, died of congestive heart failure on November 25, 2018. He was 82 years old.Greenleese grew up in Penn Wynne, Pennsylvania, spending most waking hours playing baseball. At Lower Merion High School, he was the senior class vice-president, basketball co-captain and baseball captain. A major league baseball organization's farm team invited him to try out and he did, but in the end he chose to continue his studies, eventually attending Colgate University as an Alumni War Memorial Scholar. The southpaw continued to shine on the diamond and was the university team's captain. He was also the president of Delta Upsilon fraternity. Upon graduation in 1958, he joined a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary as a baby products salesperson. A few years later, he made the "best decision of my life," marrying the former Ann Duryea. On his 30th birthday, he resigned from his corporate position to go into business for himself and soon after opened Modern Diaper Service in Alexandria. Since he delivered and picked up the diapers, his clients called him the "Diaper Man." The arrival of disposable diapers in the 1970s prompted him to sell the business and reinvent himself as a real estate broker. Now "Realtor Ron," he served primarily the Waynewood area near Mount Vernon estate. An ethical businessman, he had many repeat customers.Greenleese packed up his "for sale" signs at 60 to enjoy his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Ann; sister, Dale Beeby; daughters, Katherine Greenleese, Nancy Greenleese (Luigi Fraboni) and Jane Sarman (Brian); and three grandchildren. His brother, Bill, a U.S. Marine, died in service in 1967. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated December 7 at 11:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Alexandria followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Salvation Army.

Ann,
I'm so sorry to hear this. We remember Ron as a fixture in the Waynewood/Fort Hunt area, and a presence in Good Shepherd parish. We live now in Northampton MA, but we think of our old friends frequently, and are saddened to hear of your loss. You and your daughters are in our thoughts and prayers.

To Ann and all of Ron's family: Although I didn't meet Ron until 2 years ago, he left a lasting impression with his kindness and concern for others. He will be missed, but remembered by so many.
