Ronald James Serra

Age 78, of Arlington, VA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Born in Boston on December 16, 1946, he was the beloved son of the late Natale and Rose (Raimondi) Serra of Medford. Ron was a 1964 graduate of Medford High School and earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lowell Technological Institute (now UMass Lowell) in 1968. He went on to work proudly as an engineer for the United States Navy. Ron enjoyed a full and active life. He loved bicycling, golfing, and walking, and was an enthusiastic fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics—celebrating their championship wins at Boston's Duck Boat parades with his family. Vacations and family gatherings with his sister, niece, nephew, and their children were among his happiest times. He and his mother especially loved following his nephew Danny's Tufts University baseball career in the 1980s. Thoughtful and kind, Ron never missed celebrating a birthday or special occasion. He shared a close and loving circle of friends in Virginia—his Barnside Diner, breakfast, and coffee companions—who brought great joy to his days. He is survived by his loving sister J. Bonnie O'Neill (and her late husband Daniel O'Neill); his niece Kelly Beattie and her husband Mark Beattie of Westford; his nephew Daniel O'Neill and his wife Lauren O'Neill of Morristown, NJ; and his cherished grandnieces and grandnephews Jennifer, Matthew, Sarah, William, Scott, and Tara. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes, 830 23rd St. S, Arlington, VA. A Funeral Mass and interment will be held in Chelmsford, MA in the spring. Details will be announced at a later date.
