RUTH C. NEWCOMB  "RuRu"  
Of Springfield, VA passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016.She was the beloved wife of the late Captain F. Norman Newcomb, USN; the devoted mother of Wayne (Mary Beth) Newcomb of Plano, TX, Robin (Erick) Lermo of Springfield, VA and David (Nancy) Newcomb of Alexandria, VA; and loving grandmother of Leslie and Peter Lermo and Lydia Newcomb. Mrs. Newcomb was married to Captain Newcomb for 45 years. A devoted Navy wife and mother, she established and maintained homes for her family in a variety of towns in the U.S. and Okinawa. Since 1974, she lived with her husband in Springfield until his death in 2006. Prior to her marriage she worked as a Registered Nurse in a New York City hospital and a private physicians office. She was a graduate of Saugerties, New York High School and White Plains New York Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Newcomb volunteered as a nurse on Okinawa and as a classroom assistant at a local school on Okinawa teaching English. She also volunteered at several local schools in the Springfield area. She was a 33 year employee of Kaiser Permanente in Springfield and Burke. Mrs. Newcomb enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, knitting and crafting in her spare time. She has eagerly rejoined Captain Newcomb in spirit and will be greatly missed by her family, relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held at a date and time to be determined at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. www.funeralchoices.com

She and Norm were two of our best Navy pals ever. So wonderful that she has now joined one of the best naval officers of all time.
