I am 50 yrs old and I am old enough to remember Mr.Sam Dash from the Watergate Trials. He was my hero then, and he continues to be my hero now. I had the good fortune of working with his daughter, Rachel, in 1984 while I was completing my psychology internship at Hahnemann University. My idealization of Mr. Dash was confirmed the more that I got to know Rachel. She was witty, smart, open, loving, and down to earth. This must have come from somewhere: kudos to Mr. and Mrs. Dash. Sam Dash will be missed.

I was fortunate enough to meet Sam Dash a couple of years ago when he and his wife, Sara, sat across from me at a members’ dinner at the Cosmos Club. At first I didn’t realize who he was, other than knowing he was delightful, with twinkling eyes, an infectious laugh and sincere modesty. But, thanks to Sara, that evening I also began to learn about another side of Sam that most people probably never saw. . . not the famous, history-making lawyer but the 16-year-old high school senior who wrote a play about Alexander the Great (in iambic pentameter and rhyming couplets, no less) and then put it away for some 60 or more years. With that revelation he became, to me, the modern image of the Renaissance man.
After some insistence on my part, Sam hesitatingly shared that amazing play with me and I decided the Cosmos Club’s theater group had to do a public reading of it. On November 10, 2003, to a packed house and with Sam sitting in the front row, the play was publicly presented for the first time. Everyone, cast and audience, was so excited. I asked Sam a few weeks earlier how he would rate the forthcoming play reading to the Watergate hearings, and, without missing a beat, he said the reading was far more important personally. He explained that the hearings had been given to him as a job to do but the play was something very special, something he had created and something he could now share. Sam was all about sharing. He unselfishly shared his knowledge, his integrity, his sincerity, his love of life and, on that evening . . .an evening those in attendance will never forget . . .his art.
Thank you, Sam, for making my life and the lives of so many others around the world brighter, for having been a true star that continues to shine its light into dark corners and makes it possible for people to see beauty and truth.

In fond remembrance. The author of the play, "Alexander" will not be forgotten. Its production at the Cosmos Club last year provided insights into Sam's brilliance and warmth.

As one of Sam's oldest friends, I wish to share the family's sadness at his loss. As Sam used to remind me on the few occasions that we met after high school graduation (I was a guest at his wedding), I was his campaign manager for probably his only elective office, President of the Student Body of Central High.
Over the years, I have followed his career with pride that one of my friends had made a significant impact on American history. When I knew him as a boy he had great integrity and to the best of my knowledge it was a characteristic of his entire career.
