Samuel Hoston Obituary

HOSTON

SAMUEL MACEO HOSTON JR. (Age 95)

Samuel Maceo Hoston, Jr. passed away on November 23, 2022, peacefully in his sleep in Silver Spring, MD.

Sam was born in Pine Bluff, AR, and later moved with his mother to Ansonia, CT. During his childhood, he excelled in all sports, especially football. Sam attended Howard University on a track and football scholarship. At HU, Sam pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and was a member of the campus' ROTC. After graduating from HU with a master's degree in political science, Sam served as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force.

Sam initially entered the federal government as President Lyndon B. Johnson's political appointee. He went on to serve for over 30 years in various positions and agencies of the federal government. His greatest achievement as a career government employee was assisting hundreds of people, especially the African American community, traverse the nuances of the workplace.

Sam is survived by his wife, Lois, children Norman (Tracey) and Lisa, his grandson Sam III, great-granddaughter, Naomi, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was OUR SUPERMAN - he had X-ray vision (the ability to see through issues and into the future)! In his prime he was one of the smartest and fastest men on the planet - AND HE COULD FLY. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 17 (12 p.m. to 3 p.m.) at Leisure World Clubhouse I in Silver Spring, MD. Please RSVP to [email protected].

I met Sammy at the Channel Inn in 1973. He was a gentleman then and every time I saw him afterwards. I loved hearing him tell stories. Thank you, Hoston Family for sharing Sammy with the world. His life was well-spent. May God bless you all. Sammy's earned a good rest.
