Worthing

Sandra Brennan Worthing

(Age 80)

5/8/1943 - 10/10/2023

Of Washington DC. A longtime previous resident of Minneapolis, Sandy died peacefully October 10, 2023 at her home in Washington, DC surrounded by family and flowers.

She was born to Deborah and Thomas Brennan in Rockville Centre, NY, graduated from St. Agnes Cathedral School and Newton College of the Sacred Heart, then acheived her Master's in Education at Bank Street College, New York City where she taught kindergarten and led her pupils down 5th Avenue in the first Earth Day parade.

After traveling over 5 continents, she settled in Minnesota with the love of her life, Rich.

Sandy was principally a Mom and homemaker, yet enjoyed and achieved much more as a teacher; triathlete; Worthing Family Feud game show champion team member, June 1980; volunteer counselor at Chrysalis â€" A Center for Women; massage therapist; celebrated watercolorist accepted into the Minnesota State Fair juried competition; master gardener; and Affiliate of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, LaCrosse, WI.

Known for her inquisitive and positive spirit, loyalty, and tenacity, she was immediately curious and accepting of others, and inspired people to appreciate the beauty of nature. She gave the best hugs.

Preceded in death by her husband Richard, brother Larry Brennan, and parents Deborah and Thomas Brennan. Survived by her son Angus Worthing (Margaret Taylor), daughter Kate Magozzi (Mike Magozzi), grandchildren Lane, Ben, Maria, and Richard, sisters Penny Conaway (Jim), Nancyellen Brennan (Henry Taylor), sister in-law Joan Brennan, many loving nieces and nephews; godson Brennan Conaway (Etsuko), Rich's siblings Mary Thorpe-Mease (Bill Mease), Susie Mogan, Tom Worthing (Lory), Sam Worthing (Susie Eilertsen).

Special thanks to Sandy's longtime friend and loving caregiver Michelle Hecker, and caregivers at Home Instead, Ingleside at Home, and Angel's Touch.

Services will be held in the style of a Quaker meeting where all are welcome to speak, November 4 at 11 a.m. at Breck School Chapel of the Holy Spirit, 123 Ottawa Ave N, Golden Valley, MN 55422, and October 28 at 11 a.m. at Sidwell Friends School Robert L. Sandy was such a lovely passionate woman. I got to know her and her family in the late 90´s. Angus and Kate I am sorry for your loss. She will always be remembered.

I first met Sandy Brennan when we were students at Bank Street
College in NYC in the late 60's. One weekend I traveled to New
Jersey to attend the wedding of my first cousin, Joan Spurgeon to
Larry Brennan. As I watched the bridal procession, there was a
Bridesmaid that I knew, Sandy Brennan...such a coincidence.

During the next few years Sandy and I lost touch. She married
Rich and I married Fitz, a fellow Bostonian. After Fitz finished
medical school and internship, he took a residency at Mayo
Clinic. So we moved to Minnesota, where we heard through the
family grapevine that Sandy and Rich lived in Minnesota.

The Fitzgeralds and Worthings spent many joyful weekends together
with our young children, all 5 of them. After Fitz completed his
residency we moved to Colorado, but we kept in touch via annual
Christmas cards. As our lives twist and turn, Sandy and I
both lost our husbands on the same day, November 20, 2008.
