Sarah Seidman Obituary

SEIDMAN SARAH SEIDMAN "Sally" Sarah Berry Seidman "Sally", died in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 22, 2009, at the age of 85. She was married for 65 years to L. William "Bill" Seidman, former chairman of the FDIC and one of the founders of Grand Valley State University. Mr. Seidman died in May 2009. Sally Seidman was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she graduated from East Grand Rapids High School. She later attended the University of Michigan. The Seidmans raised their six children in Ada, Michigan and were active in social and cultural activities in western Michigan. Mrs. Seidman, an accomplished artist, was a member of the Grand Rapids Junior League, and appeared in many of the organization''s theater productions. She also served on the board of the Forest Hills Public Schools District. The Seidmans moved to Washington D.C. in the mid-"70s for Mr. Seidman''s service with the Gerald Ford presidential administration. Mrs. Seidman continued her involvement with the arts and served as a docent for the Hirschorn Museum and a member of the board of the Corcoran Museum. In recent years the Seidmans divided their time between homes in Nantucket, Massachusetts; Bradenton, Florida; and New Mexico. Mrs. Seidman is survived by one brother, six children, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be private. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Nantucket Atheneum, One India Street, Nantucket, MA, 02554.
