Scott E. Young

Scott E. Young, age 69, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025 surrounded by many dear friends following a brain aneurysm and a series of strokes over the past few months. Scott spent more than 40 years working at INOVA Fairfax hospital forging lifelong friendships and loving the work that he did.
After starting out as an orderly, he decided to pursue his RN degree. He found his niche in coronary care where he cared for and educated heart patients for 38 years. As a cardiac care nurse, Scott impacted countless lives with his compassion, dedication, and unwavering kindness—so much so that patients and hospital staff often sent letters of appreciation recognizing his extraordinary care.
Outside of work Scott was a lifelong swimmer, lettering in high school swimming, and working as a lifeguard for his first job. He was respected as a swim coach, and as an adult loved competitive swimming.
Heartfelt gratitude goes to family friends Chris and Carol Dukes who tirelessly advocated for Scott and stood by him and his family with love and devotion in the last months of his life. Deep appreciation goes out to his close friends Misha Lee, Martha Kiesel, Dara Ek, Don Fitzgerald, Archie Hoyt, and others for all of their love and support.
Thanks so much for all of the compassionate care he received from INOVA Fairfax, and INOVA Mount Vernon and especially for all of the visitors who loved Scott to the end. For those who contributed, Scott ALWAYS loved and adored the chocolate donations!!
Scott is survived by his mother, Mary M Young, brothers: Duane (Becky), David (Katie), Phil (Theresa), and sisters: Liz Appel (Mike) and Barb Risucci (John), and lots of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held August 9, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Everly Funeral Home 6161 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church VA 22044.
