SHARON JAHN Obituary

SHARON DIANE JAHN February 7, 1950 - August 25, 2021
Of Bowie, MD. Sharon was born in Glendale, WV and graduated from Moundsville High School. After graduating she came to Washington, DC where she worked for five years in the Radio Engineering Section of the FBI Laboratory. Before becoming a front office secretary, she worked with agents processing intelligence information that went to J. Edgar Hoover, the White House and national intelligence community. After her daughter left for college in 1991 she went to work for the Department of State in the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau. In 1998 she was asked to serve as the assistant to the White House appointed Ambassador heading the U.S. Delegation to International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference being held in Minneapolis. In 2002 she joined Jahn Telecommunications where she served as Head of Delegation for the Federated States of Micronesia to five ministerial level world conferences. At a conference in 2002 in Istanbul, she presented a paper on the "Unique Needs of Small Island Developing States in Closing the Digital Divide". She worked with ITU and UN staff to turn her proposal into text that found its way into the Declaration of Principles and then the Work Program adopted by A World Summit of Heads of State in Tunis in 2006.  Sharon was a quilter and she loved gardening. She found great peace and happiness at our mountain house with beautifully landscaped gardens outside of Linden, VA that looks into the Shenandoah NP. She was an active member of the St. Mathews United Methodist Church in Bowie. A memorial service will be held at a later date. She is survived by her husband William of 51 years, daughter Amy and her husband Eric Wert, her dear grandson Caspian, sisters Marilyn Reilley and Joyce Cone and nephew Ian.

We are both very sad to hear of Sharon´s passing. Wonderful memories of trips to Geneva and Linden. Lost touch when we moved to Upstate New York but will always cherish our friendship. Much love to the entire family. Beverly and Frank
