SHIRLEY ESQUITH Obituary

SHIRLEY GERTRUDE LEVINE ESQUITH
Shirley Gertrude Levine Esquith, 92, died quietly in the home of her son David and daughter-in-law Kathryn Gingles in Bethesda on December 31, 2013. The daughter of immigrant parents, Mary (neé Eisen) from Poland and Sam Levine from Russia, Shirley and her brother Howard, spent a happy childhood in the Bronx. Shirley, her husband, and their three children lived in New York, Atlanta, Toledo, and San Francisco. For the past thirty years Shirley enjoyed a full life in Arlington, Virginia where she lived independently and close to David and his family. There she took advantage of the many museums and theatres in the greater D.C. area. Her apartment was a small art gallery with the paintings, sketches, and art objects she collected on her travels. Shirley was an avid and fearless traveler who circled the globe twice, stopping to learn about the local culture in famous and not-so-familiar places. She reveled in the memories of her trips from Paris to Mongolia to the North Pole to Timbuktu, and beyond. She was a prolific, talented knitter and quilter, and she loved to play bridge with her Arlington friends. She is survived by her three children, Amy Majors (William Majors) of California, Stephen Esquith (Christine Worland) of Michigan, and David Esquith (Kathryn Gingles) of Maryland, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and her brother Howard's adult children Deborah Levine and Adam Levine (Elyn). She was a devoted family member and friend. She will be missed for her beautiful smile and her generosity. Services will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel, New York. NY. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance.
