SHIRLEY RAKESTRAW Obituary


SHIRLEY V. RAKESTRAW  
Of Lansdowne, VA passed away on February 22, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Robert W. Rakestraw and loving mother of Sheryl L. Rakestraw and her husband Helge P. Volden. Shirley was born in Leola, South Dakota on November 27, 1935 and raised in Powell, Wyoming. She graduated from Northwestern College in St Paul, Minnesota and moved to Southern California where she met Robert. They were married on December 30, 1962 in Los Angeles. She was a homemaker and lived in Southern California and also Northern Virginia. She was a woman of great strength and kindness, with a beautiful smile and enduring optimism. She cherished her time with family and friends, loved going to the beach and was active in her church throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years in 2017, her parents Martha (Bender) and Gottlieb Dalke, of Powell Wyoming; brothers Ervin Dalke, Leo Dalke, Vernon Dalke, and Delbert Dalke. She is survived by three sisters Marjorie Bradley, Doris Williamson, Charlotte Eley; and her husband Dr. Richard Eley. A private burial will be held at Ebenezer Cemetery in Bluemont, VA. On Friday February 26, 2021 at 1 p.m.You may leave condolences at www.colonialfuneralhome.com
