Simon Woodard Obituary
SIMON GREEN WOODARD
Of Washington, DC. Born March 3, 1943 in Columbia, SC. Passed on September 21, 2006. Beloved son of the late Charles and Ida Harrington Woodard. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Iris Woodard; one daughter, Kimberly Woodard; and two sons, Lamar Woodard and Mark Woodard. He is also survived by his stepmother Precious Woodard of Columbia, SC; sisters, Mary Ann Scott of Braddock, PA, Mary Eleanor Williams, Shirley Ann Woodard, Jacqueline (Eddie) Nelson, and Carlotta (Charles) Porterfield --all of Columbia, SC, Paula Woodard of Kenesaw, GA, and Janice Woodard of Marietta, GA; brothers, Charles B. (Blannie) Woodard III of Columbus, GA, and Thomas Woodard, Jr. of Frankfurt, Germany; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters Ida Bates of Richmond, VA; Alma Lofton of Andalusia, AL; and Rachel Thompson of Columbia, SC. Memorial services will be at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1206 Doewood Lane, Capitol Heights, MD 20743 on Wednesday, September 27 at 11 a.m. Services by ROLLINS FUNERAL HOME.

When I opened the email telling us of Simon's passing, my heart instantly felt heavy. I'm so glad Simon passed through my life - he was a sweet, charming and very smart man. Where ever he is now is all the more better with him there.

Simon was a dear colleague here at the Corporation. He was a true gentleman and a truly decent human being. He was so very proud of his family and talked of you often. I have been privileged to work with Simon Woodard for about six years here at the Corporation for National and Community Service. I was greatly saddened to hear of his passing. He was a very thoughtful member of the management team within the CFO organization and there were serveral occasions when I met with him to reach effective solutions to significant accounting-related problems.
I have thought about Simon from time to time when difficult procurement issues come up and will continue to thing of him in the future.

I am truly saddened to hear about Simon passing away. I just saw him a few months ago at a luncheon with several of his old team from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and he looked well, and I wished him a wonderful retirement. Simon was a wonderful supervisor, but more importantly a good man. Simon had strong Christian values that affected how he dealt with people and lived his life. I know he is ready to see his maker, but it came much too soon in life. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
