Dr. Stanley Louis Berlinsky

Dr. Stanley Louis Berlinsky, born May 29, 1927 in Baltimore Maryland and raised in Washington DC by his beloved parents, the late Joseph and Celia Berlinsky, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022. He will be forever loved by his wife of more than 66 years, Audrey Berlinsky, who he met on a blind date when she came from Glasgow, Scotland to work temporarily in the United States. His memory will be cherished by his three children, who loved their father dearly: Wendi (Frank) Gordon of Austin, Texas; Carol Lee (Jerry) Weiss of Washington, DC; and John Berlinsky of San Rafael, California. Stan's warmth, love and support will be treasured by his grandchildren: Chuck and Eliza Gordon, Colin and Julian Weiss, and Haden Berlinsky.

As a resident of Washington, DC for most of his 95 years, Stan graduated from Coolidge High School and served in the United States Navy during the final days of World War II. He then earned his undergraduate degree at George Washington University where he sparkled on stage in theatrical productions and began pursuing a lifelong study and practice in psychology.

As a doctoral student at the University of Michigan, Stan earned dual Ph.Ds in clinical and organizational psychology and speech pathology. Concurrently, he worked as a shoe salesman to help pay his tuition. He was both smart and determined.

Stan spent his entire career working in Washington DC, beginning a clinical practice while also consulting with the United States Navy Department and NASA. As his career evolved, Stan put his psychological expertise to use consulting with companies. Stan's work emphasized that a company's most important resource is not its products or services but its people. He worked tirelessly and passionately with owners and senior executives, teaching them how to sensitively manage, communicate with, and inspire each other and their employees, thus creating a more effective and productive workforce.

Stan was a valued consultant, forging long-term working relationships with companies throughout Washington DC as he advised them on strategic planning, succession management, conflict resolution, and team building. He gained great satisfaction and fulfillment from his work in nurturing the growth and development of company owners, principals and senior management. He also deeply valued the meaningful and lasting friendships that evolved over years of working with many of his clients.

Stan was a latecomer to the game of golf, but embraced its challenges and the camaraderie of his friends who played alongside him. Stan was also a voracious reader who gained great pleasure from books and engaging others in discussion about their readings. He was an avid student, attending courses in topics ranging from Middle East politics to Broadway musicals at American University's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

Most importantly, Stan adored his family, He was a devoted husband who respected, supported, and loved his wife, Audrey; and a fully engaged father and grandfather who cherished his children and grandchildren; his question ending every conversation with them was always "Is there anything I can do for you?" He was proud of his family and the love they shared, and he will be missed terribly but remembered and loved always.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, 11 a.m. at King David Memorial Gardens, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. Family will be holding a luncheon folloiwng the burial at the Berlinsky residence. Donations in his memory can be made to Makom, formerly known as Jewish Foundation for Group Homes (makomlife.org). Dear Berlinsky Family,

While it has been a while since we spent time together. Uncle Stanley was a fundamental adult role model in my youth. As a child and young adult, Uncle Stanley was always interested in my personal development and emotional health. He had a certain manner about himself that made you feel comfortable. He was particularly supportive in my early 20s in the wake of my own father death. My best memories has seeing Stan cut some moves on the dance floor at a Bar Mitzvah, wedding or other joyous occasion. He modeled a life well lived. I hope we can do the same. I will forever be grateful.

It was a privilege to meet and get to know Stanley as a neighbor in The Colonnade. Stanley was a gentle soul who, when he asked how you were, was genuinely interested in the answer. An erudite and engaging man, Stanley was one whom you would travel across the room to greet and chat with in social settings. There was something about him which drew you to him. Most recently one could see Stanley in the Fitness Center, exercising with seriousness of purpose so as to keep himself in the best shape possible. A mensch! I will miss him, and I know that Audrey and family will have so many loving memories which will keep Stanley with them as they move forward.
