My sincere condolences, I had the privilege of serving on the Boston Redevelopment Board while he was in Boston. I thoroughly enjoyed how he pushed the envelope to make things happen. I am so sorry that I missed his service. I admired him greatly. God bless all of you and may he rest in peace.
Sincerely, Consuelo Gonzales Thornell

I met my Brandeis classmate Steve Coyle when we were both students in John Matthew´s playwriting class. While most of us struggled with tiny scenes, Steve was busy writing an epic work of Irish history. After that we became friends and had many conversations/arguments about politics and life. Saw him a few times after that. Such a highly intelligent, great guy.

I was Steve´s counterpart in state government and enjoyed a decade of partnership and collaboration with this uniquely brilliant champion of Boston. He was the best urban designer in town, the best lawyer in town, the funniest person, and a visionary of incredible breadth and depth. And then he went and figured out how to marry affordable housing, the dignity of work, and urban revitalization across America.
My deepest sympathies to his family. Rest in peace, pal.

Steve's contributions to a just and equitable community were very large. I had the privilege of working with him in his role at the Boston Redevelopment Authority, especially on the South End Neighborhood Housing Initiative. We have lost two of the leaders in 2023 who crafted and implemented this important 1980s housing initiative on city-owned land in the rapidly gentrifying South End - Mel King also passed last spring. As a fellow Brandeis alum, I am moved by Steve's work to break down the town-gown divide. And the Boston Holocaust Memorial is a lasting legacy of his values. My condolences to his family.

Steve Coyle was an inspirational leader and a mentor to many of us in Boston's real estate industry. Steve was a force of nature, one-of-a-kind....with a great wit, a brilliant political mind, and an uncanny ability to pull different interests together towards compromise. Rest in peace, my friend.

With appreciation with the BIG life Steve Coyle led helping so many, many people in Boston and across the nation gain affordable housing. With appreciation for his strategic skills used to implement the Linkage Affordable Housing Policy. With appreciation for his leadership in enabling the West End Apartment affordable housing so some part of the West End neighborhood had a section of affordable housing. Condolences to Steve's family.

50 years of friendship between the Coyles and McMenimens is a long time, by earthly standards! Stephen loved his family, his true friends, and the City of Waltham. He loved America, his Irish roots, and all that each contributed to his sparkling, witty, intelligent, compassionate personality. Eternal Rest, my friend, and may God Hold you dearly in His Hands.

Have enjoyed the Irish wit and wisdom of Steve since we first met and worked together for Secretary Patricia Roberts Harris at HUD in the Carter Administration. Loved this man. He will be missed. I plan to attend the celebration of Steve’s life next week in Waltham, MA.
