SUSAN R. CHRISTEN (Age 99)
Passed away peacefully on August 24, 2018, at the Casey House in Derwood, MD. She is survived by her son, Lee (Pat); grandson, Alex; great-granddaughter, Madeleine; and great-great-grandchildren, Owen, Emma and Leo. Susan was preceded in death by her daughters, Carol and Madeleine and granddaughter, Christen.Susan graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. Degree, and worked as a patent searcher during World War II. She was a proud member of the Rosie the Riveter Society. She earned Bachelor and Masters Degrees from the George Washington University and worked for 12 years as an adult educator at Montgomery College.She was a lifelong advocate for women re-entering the workforce and worked tirelessly for the Business & Professional Women Clubs. She served as local chapter President and for many years as Chair of the Scholarship Committee. The Montgomery County BPW has named their scholarship in her name as recognition for her lifelong pursuit of advancing women's issues. Upon her move to Florida at age 91, she continued her efforts for women in the local AAUW.Her curiosity, infectious smile and life-long optimistic approach to life will be missed by all.Interment per her wishes will be in Iowa City, Iowa.
