Terence Devine Obituary

Terence Michael Patrick Devine passed to Heaven peacefully on July 21, 2025. Born in GW Hospital, DC January 17, 1952, raised in Bethesda, MD until Jr. High in CA. Preceded in death by his Father William John (Jack) Devine, Mother Rita Marie Kiernan Devine and eldest brother William John (Johnny) Devine Jr. and Robert (Bobby) Oppelt. Terry is survived by our family Patriarch brother Brian Kiernan James Devine, sister Rita Marie Devine Grace (Benjamin), sister Ann Devine Burns (Vince), nephews and nieces: Brian Kiernan Devine Jr, Brooke Devine, Jack Devine (Jenny), Tyler Devine Morocco (Matthew), Liam (Haley) Devine, Julianna Devine, Angela Grace White (Aaron), Gregory Devine Grace, Mario Grace (Janet), Stefano Grace (Maiken), and many Siblings' Grandchildren, extended family Patti Oppelt, Kitty Oppelt, dear faithful friend Marla Hurtado. Terry was a funny brother and Uncle of many, playing with young ones, teaching to identify rocks, minerals, ProLife hero, fighting for innocent unborn babies & youngest son caring for our Mother. Going to Devine reunions in Rockaway, NY was a highlight with family Aunts, Uncles, cousins swimming, boating, visiting our Kiernan Grandparents and cousins. Terry enjoyed summers at the beach, swimming near our Mom's Ocean City Condos. From age 7-13, Terry went to Leonard Hall Military Academy. In 1967 eldest brother Johnny hired Terry at TOYS R US in SF Valley. Terry climbed peaks in Placerita Canyon, swam in icy cold mountain lakes. At 15, our Mom took Terry to Dublin Ireland to visit cousins, tour Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, Italy & France. In 1974 Terry graduated with honors from Cal State Northridge in Geology; then backpacked through Europe. He moved to Alaska to work in the oil fields and pipeline to California. There volunteered with Jacques Cousteau's ship in Alaska's deep sea exploration, classifying rocks, minerals and underwater deep sea diving photography. He hiked, camped in a few Indian Reservations in AZ & New Mexico, joining Native American Pow Wows. In 1983, Terry & our Mom joined his sister Rita's French & Spanish students trip to France & Spain. In NJ, Terry worked with Brian in retail. Brian & Johnny kept Terry under their wings. He enjoyed scuba diving, swimming with manatees in Florida, rescuing sea turtles eggs nests. In 2010, Terry won radio tickets to London for The Cure Reunion Concert all costs paid for 2; he took our Mother at age 95 to front row seats, treated like loyalty! From 2013 to 2016, he studied teaching special needs. Every Rancho Santa Fé CA celebration with Brian & Silvija meant the world to Terry. He went with family: Bob, Kitty and Patti in Mexico in 2018, an adventure story in travels. Attending Church with his friend Marla Hurtado, eating out, visits from Mario & family were highlights in his later years of life. A Mass will be held at St. James Church, 905 Park Ave, Falls Church, VA 22046 on Saturday October 11, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Following Mass, 1pm burial in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Potomac MD, 20854 at 1 p.m. Following his Interment Service by Fr. Yesterday

Terry will always be my baby brother. We all miss him and his great sense of humor, heart for unborn babies lives and pressing on with life for 9 years after a large brain bleed. Terry did all he could to regain memory and his was better than mine. The last few large brain bleeds left him with hemorrhagic stroke symptoms on his left side but he was loving, caring to the end, thankfully pain free. He went to sleep and went to Heaven. Missed, loved, deep sorrow, Rita Marie and extended Devine and Grace families
