From Christine Honeycutt, Lcpl Terry Honeycutts Mom
It's been almost 13 years since TJ passed. I came across this guest book today while looking for articles about TJ for a project that someone is doing in his honor. I read all 63 entries. I'm just sorry I've not seem them til now. I don't know if any of you will ever see this but incase anyone does, I just wanted to extend my heartfelt gratitude for all of the love and support of our son and our family. It brought tears to my eyes and overwhelmed my heart. I appreciate each and every every one of your thoughts and prayers. To say thank you just doesn't express my gratitude well enough. I don't think there ARE words good enough to express such gratitude. May God bless each one of you.

My name is Angel McGough im in 12th grade, and i go to Winfield City High School. To the family and friends of Terry E. Honeycutt Jr. I'm so glad that i have the opportunity to go to college, live my life and get a good education. If it wasn't for these brave soldiers we would not be able to live the life that we live today. They have givin' us our freedom, and i am so gratfull for that. It took a lot of courage to do what they did. I too also lost loved ones who had fought for our country and to protect us. The reason I decided to write on Terry's guess books is because my fathers name was named Terry. i just wanted to let all the family and friends of Terry know that you are not alone. I am very thankful for everything he did. If you would like to contact me back please do so at my teachers e-mail address. [email protected]. Thank you.

Dear Honeycutt family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Terry will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

Nature

As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to L/Cpl. Terry Honeycutt our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Terry. And to Terry it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Terry, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Terry’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !
