THOMAS F. CONLON  Foreign Service Officer  
Thomas F. Conlon, 90, a State Department Foreign Service officer for 33 years before he retired in 1981, died December 31, 2014, at Falcons Landing in Sterling, VA. He had Alzheimer's disease.Preceded in death by his wife, Joan, he is survived by Terry (Virginia) Conlon, Peggy Conlon-Madigan, Celia (Dick) Shepard, Peter Conlon and Claudia Conlon, as well as eight grandchildren. Three sons, Thomas, Jr., William, and Timothy also preceded him in death.Mr. Conlon was born in Park Ridge, IL. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army-Air Force in New Guinea. After graduating from Georgetown University, he served in consular and political postings in Cuba, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, France, the Philippines, Australia, and Thailand. In retirement in North Carolina, he lectured on Southeast Asian history and translated French, Malay and Spanish texts. He interviewed retired Foreign Service Officers as part of the State Department's Oral History Project, and was active in Catholic charities as well as his parish church's skiffle band. Contributions in his memory may be made to Fenwick High School, 505 Washington Blvd, Oak Park, IL 60302. Services private.

Claudia, I am so sorry for your loss. Both Tom and Joan were wonderful, caring people. It is difficult to lose a parent but please know each day will get a little bit better. You and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers. God will take you through this.
