Tommy was a funny, brilliant, energetic, competant, delightful human being and a great, great journalist. He feared no one and respected all. He had a wonderful human touch. If either of his daughters reads this will she please get in touch with Rich Thomas, at 301 299 7093, a former colleague at Newsweek, fellow Detroiter and great pal. I'd like to know any memorial arrangements and notify several dozen of his old friends in Washington. Please, Sarah or Martha, let's be in touch. Rich Thomas . [email protected]

My dear friend T.J. Wish I could have seen him the last time he was in Emporium. The years kept slipping away. T.J. let my cousin and I stay at "the farm". I moved his furniture so he could have morning coffee and look at the beautiful mountains. His "farm" is in a beautiful place and he enjoyed it so much. He was a kind and generous soul. I love you T.J. Deepest sympathy to his family that he treasured.

Tom inspired me with his love of wood and wood turning. We enjoyed reminscing about sailing (we talked about, but never sailed together -- a missed opportunity). My condolences to Lee.
